Editor, Gazette-Journal: I am amazed at how easily politicians can entice citizens in order to acquire power for themselves. It’s referred to as demagoguery. Joseph Stalin called them “useful idiots.” Referring to last week’s writer’s coercion to vote YES, who of us believes that a “temporary change” to a Constitution remains temporary? Those of us old enough to recall, know that a “living” Constitution, in reality, is no constitution at all. If enacted, the current temporary change inaugurates a “living” Constitution. And yes, the party in power in 2030 can gerrymander all they want, but by then it’s too late. Between now and 2030, no less than three or more election periods will take place. If the yes votes win, Democrats will have 10 new districts in Virginia while Republicans will have one. The races in the next four years will include a governor and state legislature and two national races—midterms and presidential—thereby locking in a Democratic sweep in Virginia again. Not exact...
