Letter: Two visions for America

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This election is about two differing visions for America. On one hand, we have a philosophy of individual responsibility and more individual freedoms. An equal opportunity, but no guarantee of an equal outcome. Free men are not equal and equal men are not free.

Last week in Iowa, Barack Obama uttered the phrase "shared prosperity." I’m sure Karl Marx would be proud of the NEW Democrat party. Marx’s vision was "from each according to his ability; to each according to his need." Can you see the similarity here? This crushing debt is straight out of anti-capitalist, Columbia professors Cloward’s and Pivens’ view of radical reform. You must collapse the economy first to enact socialist reforms. Not my vision of "forward."
