Letter: Time for spring cleaning

Last week, the Gloucester Clean Community Committee (GCCC), looking at the weather forecast for March 14 and the levels of water in most of the roadside swales, decided it was best to reschedule the cleanup to this Saturday, March 21. Through e-mails to those who had registered for the cleanup, our posting on the Clean Community website and the drizzle/rain on Saturday morning, we hope no one was inconvenienced by this change.

Last year, almost 300 volunteers picked up 8.1 tons of trash. Imagine what our county would look like had they not volunteered their time and effort to make Gloucester cleaner for the Daffodil Festival. I ask that, as you drive, look at the trash and litter that covers the roadsides (especially both ends of T.C. Walker Road and alongside Route 17, north of Walmart). While the litter blight will most likely never be erased, it is the goal of the GCCC to reduce litter in Gloucester through litter cleanups and increased public awareness.
