Letter: Threat to democracy

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

We have heard for months from the Democrats and the mainstream media that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. They say since he encouraged millions of his supporters to come to D.C. to let their voices be heard on Jan. 6 it was an act of insurrection and he is a threat to democracy. Since when is free speech and free assembly a threat to democracy?

They had a legal permit to assemble. Trump had offered the National Guard to the D.C. mayor and the Capitol Police three days before, but they refused his offer. How is that a threat to democracy? Things got out of hand, but isn’t that on whoever oversees security at the Capitol, which is Pelosi? She has even admitted on video to failing the American people that day because they weren’t prepared. Shouldn’t she be bearing some responsibility?

But let’s look further on who is the real threat to democracy.

Who censored free speech by using the social media apparatus? Both Twitter and now Meta have admitted that the White House and the intelligence agencies strongly encouraged them to censor conservative views and censor the concerns of scientists and medical experts on the Covid vaccine. Was that Trump? No, the Biden/Harris Administration. This is a threat to democracy.

Biden won 14,465,519 popular votes during the Democratic Party primaries, which equals 87.1 percent of the votes, but the Democratic leaders and elites pushed him out and inserted Harris into his spot because he did poorly during a presidential debate. Harris received no votes from anyone. This is a threat to democracy.

The cornerstones of democracy are free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom to vote for the candidate for your choice. Now you tell me who is the biggest threat to democracy.
