Letter: The Thrifty Spot: A win-win for Mathews

On Dec. 8, 2010, The Thrifty Spot, a transition-to-work training program for students with disabilities, opened its doors to the Mathews community. Residents, area churches, and a crew of dedicated volunteers have embraced this project, making it a win-win for our students, for Mathews County Public Schools, and the community of Mathews. The Thrifty Spot provides Mathews residents with a local thrift opportunity.

The response to having a thrift shop has been overwhelming, allowing The Thrifty Spot to financially support and contribute to instructional needs for students with disabilities at all three schools within the division. Most importantly, your generous donations, volunteer hours, and retail shopping support have provided the opportunity for our students with disabilities to learn valuable vocational skills in preparation for jobs in the county upon graduation.
