Letter: The coming debt crisis

During the previous years, my opinions, views and yes, sometimes a concern or two, have appeared on the editorial pages of this paper. My greatest concern continues to be that while I may be wrong about the chronology of events, I am convinced of the ultimate outcome regarding the coming debt crisis.

This nation is entering a financial crisis that can only be described as a giant Ponzi scheme. The country is effectively bankrupt. While this pronouncement might be too starkly at odds with the current party line, it is fundamentally sound. However, consider the consequences should Congress fail to raise the debt limit. It is a certainty, however, that the massive monetization of debt cannot continue without risk of destroying the monetary system.

This country and people are entering a financial crisis that has been camouflaged by faulty, if not fraudulent, forecasting and accounting practices that would put Bernie Madoff to shame. The current and coming crisis...
