Letter: Takes issue with lack of public input on solar farms

I am writing to express my concern with the actions taken at the Nov. 4, 2015 Board of Supervisors meeting on the resolution regarding the proposed Solar Panel Farm Ordinance. I wish to state up front that I am in favor of Gloucester County making efforts to be “Green” and lead Virginia in supporting solar energy. This letter is only an attempt to describe the lack of public input to the decision made by the board that night in their approval of the resulting ordinance.

As background the topic of an ordinance for a Solar Energy Farm in Gloucester County was first raised at the planning commission’s meeting held on Sept. 3, 2015, discussed for approximately 40 minutes, and the planning staff was instructed to prepare a draft ordinance. It is my conclusion that the planning commission agreed that the best approach for a probable 200 acre solar farm ordinance would be a “conditional use” ordinance.
