Editor, Gazette-Journal:
There are days to remember and recall the deeds of our veterans, mothers, fathers and Founding Fathers. For citizens of Gloucester, we should also remember the Gloucester 40 and their representation of all of us in addressing the behavior of the Board of Supervisors.
The actions of the Gloucester 40 were recognized and memorialized by both houses of the General Assembly and by their recognition as Citizens of the Year in Tidewater. We should also remember the monetary costs incurred by the Gloucester 40 that amount to over $80,000. As beneficiaries of the Gloucester 40, each citizen and signatory to the recall petition should consider making a contribution in gratitude for their leadership, representation and demand for responsible government.
Although I am not a member of the Gloucester 40, I have been wondering how I might help. A little research has revealed that checks can be made to "Friends of the 40" and sent to: Friends of the 40, P.O. Box 200, Hayes, Va. 23072. This is a check worth writing for the citizens who led this initiative for good government in Gloucester.
Let’s not forget the noble actions of our fellow citizens who represented us so well.
