Letter: T.C. Walker closing needs a second look

We have had substantial discussion and petitions in our county recently about the proposed closure of the T.C. Walker School. It is very evident to me and many others that this closure should be reevaluated. It is sensitive from the standpoint of the prominence of T.C. Walker in the development of 20th century Gloucester County and the sentiments of our citizens, coupled with the fact that the school has been exceptional in the testing and education of our young people. It comes very close to being what we could identify as a model school from which others could learn.

We have been losing students in the Gloucester system, which necessarily has required some budget cuts and personnel reductions. Most of our citizens are much more concerned about teaching positions being at risk, versus administrators and other non-teaching positions. When we ask a question, it is always related to us in terms of positions only and no further definition of personnel cutbac...
