Editor, Gazette-Journal: According to the Feb. 12 article in the Gazette Journal, the Gloucester County Public Schools superintendent’s proposed 2027 budget is a $1.5 million increase over the 2026 budget. This is a 1.9 percent increase to teach 100+ less students in 2027 than were taught in 2026. The easy answer is, “Yeah, sure.” But, unfortunately, we are well past just giving an easy answer. As a county resident/taxpayer I say, “No.” Dr. Vladu stated they went through a “rigorous process” to come to this budget. I request that he and the school board revisit the process (maybe it should be a little more rigorous) and figure out a 2027 budget that does not increase costs to teach less students. I suggest all Gloucester residents request the same. Higher costs to do less—what a concept. Companies have to change their processes to reduce costs, and school systems need to do the same.
