Letter: Spending money on a pipe dream

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Well folks, here Mathews County goes again, talking about spending money that it says it does not have to make the “Boat Yard” some kind of recreational Mecca.

Spending monies that are non-existent when it comes to other properties currently owned by the county that are in dire need of maintenance and/or repair. Why is it that the county wants what it does not have, yet never can find the money and time to take care of what it does own?

Do they have adequate facilities, are they in need of repair? Should the county spend tens of thousands of new dollars on a pipe dream to create yet another site that will need maintenance and repair that, too, will be a forgotten site? The county cannot fix the docks, stabilize the shoreline, fill in the holes in the parking areas or improve trash receptacles or restrooms to the properties it currently owns.
