Letter: Some things are just not negotiable

In their recent opinion titled "Not Surprising" the editors bemoan friction within the body politic; and elsewhere on the same page, two readers disagree about "What is prejudice" on the matter of a library display and the seeming promotion of homosexual and trans-sexual activity. In a recent article, The Atlantic magazine reports findings by Gallup and other researchers that the number of citizens in the USA who are actually "gay" or "confused"—how else does one denote transsexual—amount to somewhere between 2 and 4 percent of the entire population. Simple math if you choose to use it, might cause one to conclude that over 95 percent of citizens are not "gay" or sexually confused. (That’s a plurality that gets to a point concerning the editor’s longing for consensus.)
