Letter: Sheriff’s office deserves financial support

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

It has been reported that there is a surplus in the 2017 budget for Mathews County which will be allocated in the 2018 budget and a number of people are clamoring for ways to spend it.

This may come up for a vote at the next Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Dec. 19 at the historic courthouse, starting at 1 p.m.

Please contact the board members and request that they allocate an appropriate amount, as determined by Sheriff Barrick, in their budget for the sheriff’s department.

The Department’s personnel and resources are stretched. We spend money for just about everything else, why not adequately appropriate funds for those who daily risk their lives on our behalf?
