Letter: Schools like St. Margaret’s are vital

I had the privilege of serving as the School Librarian at St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock around the turn of this century. During my time there, I saw first-hand how this school provided a safe, nurturing environment where young women could learn, grow, and gain the confidence to succeed.
That’s why I was saddened to hear that members of the St. Margaret’s School Board of Governors, its administration, and the alumni community were caught off guard when the Church Schools of the Diocese of Virginia (CSDV) sent a letter to families this summer warning of the very real possibility that the school may not reopen in the fall. This came as a shock to many who have poured their time, energy, and resources into keeping the school strong.
