Letter: Resolutions for the new year

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Every year we make resolutions that we don’t keep, but I can think of a few maybe we should:

1. Try not to be arrogant, whether it is in our politics or our religion. The fact we believe a certain way is not proof we are right or that others are wrong. Every religion or political group can quote volumes of writings supporting their ideologies written by intelligent people. I know this sounds like blasphemy to some, but the reality is deities tend only to speak to their respective faithful, and our founders, having lived a couple of centuries ago, are not qualified in current affairs, leaving us to think for ourselves. That said, people believe what people believe. Respect that.

2. Work together. Real issues are only solved when there is consensus, not shouting over the other guy. I will happily give up a little of what I want to get what I need. If we do, we all prosper. The best example may be we have spent years forcing health care down people’...
