Editor, Gazette-Journal: I’ve received three mailed advertisements from Rep. Rob Wittman. The most recent claims he is “Making Health Care Work for Virginia Families.” It says he “strengthened rural health care by helping secure nearly $190 million for Virginia through the Rural Health Transformation Program.” What it doesn’t say is that this funding is a Band-Aid on the $911 billion evisceration to Medicare/Medicaid programs that rural hospitals rely on to provide necessary health care. On May 22, 2025, Rob Witt-man voted for HR1, which passed by a margin of one vote: 215-214. Had he voted against the bill, it would have failed. He voted for it and after Senate amendments and a second vote, the legislation was enacted, with the Medicare and Medicaid cuts scheduled to take effect in January 2027.
