Letter: Our local heroes turn the tables

For many years, the Piankatank Community League has continued a cherished tradition of hosting community-wide appreciation dinners for the members of the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad (GVFRS).

However, last Thursday evening the tables were turned on the members of the community league so to speak.

In appreciation for the community league’s support of the GVFRS, the fire and rescue volunteers at Harcum Fire Station #4 held a cookout for league members. Along with a great meal cooked and served by the GVFRS volunteers, we were given a guided tour of the fire station by Fire Chief 4 C.W. Miller.

Volunteer Richard Brown led a tour of the Middle Peninsula Regional Fire Training Center located adjacent to the station. The highlight of the evening had to be our inspection of the new fire engine #45. A couple of years ago, the league initiated a Harcum Engine Outfitters Fund to kick off donations to help outfit this new engine. And that dream of ...
