Letter: New boathouse can only be a positive for Mathews

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I graduated from Mathews High School in 2000 and was a four-year member of the crew team. Rowing opened many doors in my life. I was recruited, attended and graduated from the Naval Academy. I have raced at three World Rowing Championships, representing the United States of America in the Lightweight Men’s 8. Currently, I am training at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., to compete in the 2012 London Olympic Games. All of this happened because I was able to row at a successful program, run by selfless people at a place that harbored success.

Rowing at Mathews was a unique experience. We thrived off of hard work and bringing home medals. We parked our rowing shells in an old oyster house and completed land workouts in a building with no HVAC.
