Letter: Life-giving roots are acts of love

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Like a tree that has been uprooted is the best way to describe how my family and all the other families devastated by Hurricane Harvey and Irma must feel. All the years of growth and work washed away in a matter of minutes.

Everyone that survived is so grateful to be alive but numb by what is happening. Then the shock comes and fear for their new reality to life which they know will never be the same.

My sister, former Roane Lee Callis of Mathews, my niece Pam, and nephew Kevin, all live in Rockport, Texas, where Harvey with 100+ mph wind, rains and tide destroyed beyond repair all three homes. The schools and their church were also damaged. These things that give us stability are now missing. Because of jobs, school and living conditions, the families are separated at this time.
