Letter: Letter shows ‘sophistry and factual oblivion’

I found Mr. David McCreary’s letter ("At war with reality and reason," Sept. 8 Readers Write) enlightening. Mr. McCreary’s diatribe is one of the best examples of pure sophistry that I have encountered in some time. He manages to malign many good people in both Mathews and Gloucester with a claim of "truth bearing any inspection." He describes "the Tea Party and their ilk" as far-right conservatives, further claiming they are at war with reality, reason, as well as science. He further claims, "there is no reasoning with these people." Mr. McCreary’s descriptions include members of Congress as "treasonous-level crazy." All of this comes about, I imagine, because others have the audacity to hold a different opinion. Mr. McCreary obviously believes he has the sole ability to determine what is best for the rest of us. He fervently advocates truth, reality and reason, while being totally unaware...
