Letter: Let us have our say

Regarding the letter by Mr. Richards in Readers Write (“Logo designed to attract tourist dollars,” Feb. 18 issue), I say it’s not all about money, it’s about letting the citizens that have grown this county over the years have their say on a less divisive logo.

As to having a tendency to resist change, I don’t think so. Just look at all that has changed in Mathews in the last 40 years. Great things have happened, too numerous to list all. Some that come to mind are—in 1973 or thereabouts we had one bank; now we have two. We have a new courthouse complex, a great new library, and a wonderfully located new rescue squad building. We have a Boys & Girls Club, a growing YMCA, a new firehouse, streetlights in the Court House area and, hopefully, a new Donk’s Theater. Most of us have probably contributed funds, or help, to see these changes.

My question to all is, do we really think grants are free? I suspect our tax do...
