Letter: Laws for all

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The arrogance demonstrated by many members of the U.S. Congress has now trickled down to the local level.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2010, while traveling east on Buckley Hall Road, a Chevy Tahoe pulled out from Pine Hall Road. The vehicle exiting Pine Hall Road did not stop or slow down for the posted stop sign. This infraction of the law caused me to decelerate to avoid a collision.

I was going to the courthouse area. The person exiting the vehicle in that location was the Commissioner of the Revenue for Mathews. I shouted to him that it was evident that he had no regard for the road regulations.

We do not need public servants to demonstrate wanton disregard for the laws on the books. If a person acknowledges he (she) is above the law, the quicker they are dislodged from their "throne," the better off we will all be.
