Letter: ‘Lafayette. We are here’

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

In reference to Tyler Bass’s Oct. 27 article “Rosewell Foundation hosts an evening with Lafayette.” To augment our balanced equation with reliance on the page 12A subtitle, “celebrates his legacy,” we haven’t forgotten over the years.

A month after President Wilson appointed General John Pershing as commander of the American Expeditionary Force, Pershing’s force of 14,000 landed at Saint-Nazaire, France, and marched through Paris to Lafayette’s grave.

In front of the tomb, Col. Charles Stanton declared: “Lafayette. We are here!”

We continue to remember and reflect on Lafayette’s legacy. Thank you, Tyler Bass, for the article.
