Letter: Know your employees; know your workplace

The question continues to be asked, what can be done to stop mass shootings in this country?

The most valuable asset a business has is its employees. They are the reason customers return. They are the reason a business succeeds. How the customer is treated is the reason. 

Having successfully managed small businesses and been at my own for over 20 years I have some experience when it comes to working with employees.

It is very important that a manager/supervisor/owner knows his employees … how they are doing; how they are feeling. Asking personal questions may seem like prying, but it shows you care about your employees’ well-being and helps alert you to potential emotional issues.

The questions asked must be within legal boundaries. Consider these as examples: How is your supervisor treating you? What are you hearing from customers? Are you happy with your job, your assignments? If not, what changes would you make? The important part of t...
