Letter: Income inequality buzzword smacks of socialism

I am already tired of the political bantering about income inequality, but get ready to hear a lot more about it in the upcoming election cycles. Sure, it sounds like a bad, unfair thing. It is becoming a buzzword (or words) for “populist politicians.” But stop and think about it. Income equality is not achievable in a free capitalist system, the system that has made us the greatest nation.

It smacks of socialism and communism. Why should I strive to go out and get my own when I could have some of yours without all that effort?

Education equality and opportunity equality should be the goals. Even Jesus said that the poor would always be among us. They should be helped and not left to suffer. However, it should be given, not confiscated.

As we drift closer to socialism, it would behoove us to look at the socialist economies of the past and present and understand how poorly they have and are performing.
