Letter: Green for a day

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I’m part Irish and look forward to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day every year on March 17.

There’s an Irish saying that if you are caught not wearing green, you get pinched. I always made sure to wear green, either a t-shirt or hat.

In elementary school the teacher would have us kids that weren’t wearing green make paper shamrocks to pin on our shirts.

In the great country of Ireland they cook corned beef and hash, mostly meat and cabbage cooked together. They even say when you go to kiss the Blarney Stone you will have good luck.

One special thing from old folklore, if you catch a leprechaun you get its pot of gold.

For those who are Irish or partly Irish an easy way to get your good luck on St. Patrick’s Day is to look closely for a four-leaf clover.

In closing I wish all of you a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
