Letter: Governments lie

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

“All governments lie” was the rallying cry of the popular progressive journalist I.F. Stone. His words involving the veracity of government continue to be relative to today.

Although Mr. Stone departed this life decades ago, his wit and wisdom remain well chronicled among today’s journalists. His outspoken stance for supporting dissent against abuse of civil rights as well as an antiwar activist made I.F. Stone an icon of dissent during the Vietnam War where his controversial nature excelled in raising awareness as well as the ire of many in what turned out to be a very unpopular war.

Meanwhile, the lies continue while a war rages between Russia and Ukraine, with the involvement of the U.S. and NATO alliance. We are just beginning to hear of the corruption involving the aid sent to Ukraine by our government. Fortunately, we have a ringside seat for the sorry revelations that will be forthcoming by House Republicans into the Biden Administration’s hand...
