Letter: For everyone to enjoy

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The Mathews Land Conservancy (MLC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is delighted at the attention and enjoyment of Williams Wharf Landing on the East River. This property was acquired and developed for everyone to enjoy the best asset Mathews has to offer—its glorious waterfront.

The nonprofit Conservancy was created in 1995 to secure the future of the Williams Wharf waterfront site, which was abandoned and in bankruptcy. Through a combination of private funding, federal and state grants, the property was purchased by the MLC and placed into preservation of waterfront open space for public access and purpose.

In 2011, the Conservancy entered into an easement agreement with Mathews County and the Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority to ensure perpetual public access to this waterfront resource for recreation and scenic enjoyment, non-motorized watercraft usage, as well as maritime, environmental, aquaculture and historical education.

We welcome you to come enjoy the covered pavilion, floating pier, fishing pier, boardwalk and facilities at Williams Wharf Landing; or the other MLC waterfront locations at Bayside Pavilion in Bavon, and Sandy Point on the Chesapeake Bay at Milford Haven. All locations are free and open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset.

Please reach out to either of us with questions or thoughts at 804-725-9685, info@mathewslandconservancy.org, or check out our history and mission at www.MathewsLandConservancy.org. We hope to see you at one of our facilities enjoying the waterfront!
