Letter: Rally around the winner

Editor, Gazette-Journal: By the time you read this letter, we will know who won the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s First Congressional District, now running against Rob Wittman for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic primary had seven candidates. To their credit, most spent a fair amount of time in the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck. Neither area is vote rich, compared to the western end of the Congressional District 1 that includes Henrico and Chesterfield. It was a spirited contest, as Democrats chose their preferred candidate. Now, Democrats must rally around the winner. Not only must we vote for him or her on Nov. 3, we have to volunteer and make donations. The Wittman campaign is entering the general election campaign with a huge financial advantage. All the Democratic CD1 candidates have pledged not to accept corporate money, which is hitting the Wittman campaign bank account by the bucket full.
