Letter: For beautification by the Garden Club of Gloucester

Thanks to the Garden Club of Gloucester members for decades of beautifying the corner of Main Street and Route 14! 

As some readers may have noticed, after one of the boxes was damaged and in anticipation of VDOT reconstructing the corner in 2020, the flower boxes have been removed. The original boxes were built by James Morgan several decades ago on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and in coordination with VDOT and the County. Since then the Garden Club members have planted and maintained them with bulbs, annuals, perennials and shrubs. At one point the Boy Scouts did repairs and reconstruction on the boxes.

Thanks to the Woman’s Club and Jeff Wine, owner of the corner carwash, for providing access to hoses and water over the years. Thanks also to the Chamber and Brent and Becky’s Bulbs for generously donating plant material. This was truly a community effort.
