Letter: Farmer not ready for ‘prime time’

At the Oct. 2 Gloucester County Candidates Forum, wannabe supervisor Kevin Farmer demonstrated he is not ready for “prime time.” Farmer attacked incumbent supervisors John Meyer and board chairperson Phillip Bazzani, accusing them of being “draconian” and questioning their integrity because they had raised property taxes 200-300 percent on waterfront property.

Lesson Number One for Mr. Farmer: Know your real estate regulations. The board of supervisors, by Commonwealth law, is only permitted to set the rate of tax. Currently, that rate is $0.695 per $100 of the assessed value of the residence. The board of supervisors has no control over the valuation of homes. This job is performed by the county assessor.
