Letter: Costly repairs

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I drive an older car. It runs well, gets good mileage, and is safe for me to drive. I tried a different repair shop than I usually use; they advertised lower prices. I needed new tires, brakes, and an oil and filter change. The estimate was great; I left my car for servicing.
When I picked up my car, everything looked okay, but the bill was higher than estimated. They said they installed the best parts; I could either pay or lose my car.
Driving home, the steering was off, braking was noisy, and the engine didn’t sound right. I drove to my regular repair shop, showed them the estimate and invoice, and asked them to check my car. They did and researched the invoiced parts. The parts weren’t for my year/model car. The oil and filter were wrong; my car was leaking a fine mist of oil. The brake pads were missing bolts, the ‘new’ tires were re-treads, and the alignment wasn’t right. They fixed it and helped me write a complaint. The different repair shop laughed and...
