Letter: Bush deserves credit for spread of democracy

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Quoting the Washington Merry-Go-Round column from last week’s paper, "The ideology of democracy, not coercion, is the foundation of Democracy Domino Theory, and the president understood that in 2009." With all due credit to President Obama, it was a former equally-prominent American who foresaw that the transition to elected government in Iraq would lead to similar trends throughout the Middle East. For daring to espouse that theory, he was ridiculed by his detractors as naïve, ignorant and self-serving. His name: George W. Bush.
