Letter: Building a better community

April 7-13 is National Volunteer Week, which is an opportunity to celebrate service and recognizes the impact volunteers have in building a better community.

Each year, the Gloucester Department of Community Engagement highlights a handful of our volunteer partners from the thousands that serve our schools. While we are only able to shine a spotlight on a few, the individuals below symbolize all who dedicate themselves to serving others with their time, talents and care. Please join us as we celebrate the service of all Gloucester volunteers, young and old, by sharing these exemplary examples:

Vivian Eccleston, a GHS senior, is a devoted weekly volunteer at Botetourt Elementary School. For five years, she has worked with kindergarteners in reading and speech, always with a smile on her face. She will be missed next year as she attends James Madison University to major in speech/language pathology.
