Letter: Bridge tolls, Rep. Wittman and the resist movement

One of last week’s contributors (“We are paying our dues,” July 20 Readers Write) made several interesting assertions, two of which caught my attention. It looks like (Ugh) the campaign season is here.

First, the writer suggested that tolls on the Coleman Bridge should properly be considered dues. I like a good euphemism as well as the next person, so I’ll support the idea. Although, I’m not sure what we’ll call non-resident fees for crossing the bridge.

One of my favorite euphemisms is Medicaid expansion. It used to be called welfare, but we can’t say that anymore because it might stigmatize someone. How awful that we should motivate people with hard truths. Welfare is supposed to be short term.

The Affordable Care Act is another nice one (or is that an oxymoron), but so much for that thought.
