Letter: Breathing new life into Timberneck House

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

On behalf of the Fairfield Foundation Board of Directors, we would like to thank the community for their support and sponsorships that led to another successful fundraising event. This year’s Historic House Party took place on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Cappahosic House in Gloucester County. Nearly 150 attendees visited the mid-18th-century landmark, which has stood above the banks of the York River since 1756. Funds raised from this event are helping support the restoration of the Timberneck House at Machicomoco State Park, a multi-year effort by the Fairfield Foundation to revitalize this historic house into a venue for learning and accommodation.

Party guests enjoyed wonderful food prepared by Shelly Williams and were entertained with live traditional music by Victoria Gum and Waverly Garner. Guests were able to tour the house, graciously opened by its current owner, and talk with Fairfield staff and board members about archaeological work in the area and the ongoing process of restoring the Timberneck House. The Fairfield Foundation plans to restore Timberneck over the next three years, with a projected total cost of $1.25 million. This event helped kick off the capital campaign to raise funds for this exciting project. We are thrilled to breathe new life into the Timberneck House and make it a destination for the entire community.

Special thanks to our generous Platinum Sponsor, Chesapeake Bank, for their multi-year commitment to help with the Timberneck restoration. We would also like to thank our Gold Sponsors, Vulcan Materials Company and the Friends of Cappahosic House for their generous contributions. Silver Sponsors to the event include Storybound Construction, Buxton & Buxton TrustBuilders Law Group, Linda and Jeffrey Breaks, Timothy and Janet Brown, Amy Denney, Col. Jan and Flo Harpole, Dr. Kevin and Noreen Schwartz, Pattie and John Sobieski, and Joseph Tomlinson. The numerous Bronze Sponsors include Lori Jackson Black Professional Genealogical Services, Main Street Preservation Trust, Peninsula Heating and Air, Tri-River Investment Group of Davenport and Company, William T. Andersen, Rebecca Guest, Tom and Cheryl Karow, Robert L. Montague, David and Pam Muffelman, Bernice Rowe, and Marilyn and David South. We also extend our sincerest thanks to all the other individuals and companies who gave for this event. Your continued support makes all of our programs possible, and has helped the Fairfield Foundation bring archaeology and preservation to the public for more than two decades.
