Letter: Beattie, Walsh for Mathews BOS

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
As a resident of Mathews County, I believe this year’s board of supervisors’ race is so important to the future of our county. With so much division and uncertainty being reported in the national news, I had to ask myself, “What can I do to help our local community?” I found the answer is to support candidates who have professional experience, fresh ideas, and leadership skills to move us forward. Two issues are important to me—improving the school system and economic development.
Regarding the issue of our schools in Mathews, I see change happening, and I’m impressed with what has been accomplished under the new superintendent. I hope that the newly elected supervisors will continue to support efforts to improve broadband access for our students.
Everyone in the county will benefit from this, especially our students. I hope we can find funding for vocational training programs to help students have job opportunities after high school. Our schools are the heart ...
