Letter: Apples and oranges

James Young (“Applies to both sides,” March 11 Readers Write) is right: People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Nor should they compare apples to oranges. So comparing his accusations of inappropriate Democratic behavior to just about anything Donald Trump did or said while in office makes a poor argument. And truth matters. Inciting an insurrection that left five people dead is not the same as incautious actions or words spoken in haste.

Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, tore up her copy of a Trump speech after Trump refused to shake her hand and turned his back to her when he arrived to give his State of the Union address. Her reaction isn’t surprising to women. She is, after all, the female head of one of the three equal parts of our government and deserved more respect from him.
