The Legacy for Gloucester Citizens, in collaboration with the American Red Cross, sponsored a blood drive Monday. The event, held at Shepherdsville Baptist Church on Farys Mill Road, saw an overwhelming turnout of enthusiastic participants eager to make a difference, a release stated.
The blood drive was a success, with enough blood collected to save 63 lives. “This achievement underscores the vital role that community involvement plays in supporting health care initiatives and saving lives,” according to the release.
In addition to the drive, the event featured a voter registration drive and a booth dedicated to educating attendees about sickle cell disease. These initiatives aimed to empower the community with vital information and encourage civic participation.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to donate and participate in the voter registration drive,” said Legacy for Gloucester Citizens’ president Brenda Dixon. “This event not only highlights the generosity of our community but also the importance of coming together to support those in need and to be informed citizens.”
For some attendees, this was their first experience donating blood. The American Red Cross professionals along with the Legacy for Gloucester Citizen’s volunteers provided a welcoming and supportive environment, ensuring that all donors felt comfortable and informed throughout the process.
“This is just one way to get involved and help your community,” Dixon added. “We encourage everyone to consider donating blood, registering to vote, and participating in future events to continue making a positive impact.”
The Legacy for Gloucester Citizens plans to host more community events in the coming months, aiming to foster a spirit of unity and service among residents.
