Artist Steve Doherty made a career out of editing stories about other people’s art for art magazines and books, but for the past two years, he has been able to concentrate solely on creating his own works of art.
He is currently finishing up his residency through Arts on Main, and he’ll give a talk on his work at 6 o’clock tonight at the gallery on Main Street.

Doherty said his residency would not have been possible without the generous support of the Cook Foundation, and he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to focus solely on his painting for two weeks.
“This residency has been absolutely wonderful,” said Doherty. “I’m here completely alone, with a place to live while I’m here. It’s an opportunity not to have to think about anything except painting.”
