The Gloucester High School varsity softball team had another winning week, defeating both the Mathews Blue Devils and Woodside Wolverines on the road.
The Lady Dukes beat Mathews, 11-0, Monday evening. Avery West pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 13 batters without issuing a walk. West also had two hits for three at-bats, recording two doubles and two RBIs. Cameron Palas also had two hits, recording a double and driving in four runs. Autumn Cookson and Alexis Dishman each added a hit and two RBIs.
Mathews players Bentlea Lawrence and Hannah Davis both hit singles in the loss.
Gloucester also achieved a shutout win against Woodside, defeating the Wolverines by a staggering 35-0 final score. Cookson picked up the win as she pitched a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts. She also added three hits and five RBIs in the win.
Hannah Horsley had four hits, including a double, seven RBIs and a three-run home run. Tessa Carteret also had four hits and drove in three runs.
