Lady Dukes post 2 shutout wins, improve to 13-0

Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players improved to 13-0 with a pair of recent shutouts. The Dukes blanked Heritage, 14-0, last week and bested rival Kecoughtan 7-0 on Tuesday.

“Kecoughtan is always a rival, no matter what the records are. It’s been that way since before I was the coach. There’s always a lot of intensity,” said veteran Gloucester coach Mike Miller. 

“We probably played our best game of the year. I think we put everything together and came together as a team. I thought we played extremely well.”

Junior Kessa Romero had four goals and two assists in the win. Goals also came from Elizabeth Thomas, Madi Hodges and H.P. Johnson. Additional assists were provided by Allison Goodwin, Carli Walke and Johnson. 

The Tuesday matchup was also Gloucester’s Pink Out game, an event to raise breast cancer awareness. Miller said it gives him the opportunity to discuss breast cancer with his players, and parents pitch in...
