The Gloucester High School varsity softball team beat Woodside in back-to-back games last week.
The first game was held at GHS last Wednesday, April 13, where the Lady Dukes beat the rival Lady Wolverines, 13-3. Samantha Carlton and Hailey Hardaway led Gloucester offensively. Carlton hit a single and a double, driving in four runs, while Hardaway continued her hot streak with three hits and two RBIs. Jayanna Richards and Kaia Hutton each had a single and a double with both driving in two runs apiece. Grace Sinko Van-Liew and Kimber Rainey each contributed two singles. Richards pitched a complete game, striking out seven batters.
The following day, GHS defeated Woodside in an away game, this time by a 13-4 margin.
Hardaway had an RBI double in the first inning and Sadie Bowden had an RBI single in the third inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Bowden and Hardaway opened the inning with back-to-back walks. Richards followed with a long three-run blast over the left field fence to give the Lady Dukes an 8-3 lead. Gloucester would go on to add five runs in the seventh inning with Hardaway, Sinko Van-Liew, Chickey Boles and Makayla Hernandez all getting RBIs.
After these two wins, the Lady Dukes raised their record to 6-2, including a 4-0 Peninsula District record.
Gloucester is scheduled to host Heritage on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
