In the last game of the regular season, the Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team defeated the New Kent Trojans, 11-0, Tuesday night at home. As the highest-seeded team, the Lady Dukes will host Phoebus on Monday in the regional quarterfinal match.
During Tuesday’s game, Gloucester recorded 32 shots while only giving up one. The Lady Dukes scored their first five goals in the second quarter and scored six more in the third before ending the game in a mercy-rule win.
Peyton Sutton led her team in scoring with six goals, followed by Ellary Miller with two and Hannah Symonds, Ady Jeffrey and Ayla Fernandes each chipping in one goal apiece. Charlotte Houtz recorded nine assists, bringing her to a career-total of 100 assists.
Before the game, the field hockey program celebrated its seniors who include Symonds, Sutton, Rylie Jeffrey, Ady Jeffrey, Addy Zabicki, Hailee Johnston and Miller. The senior class boasts a record of 66 wins with only 12 losses.
At the conclusion of Tuesday’s match, Gloucester’s season record stands at 14-3. Monday night’s region game against the Phantoms is scheduled to begin at 7 o’clock.
