The Mathews High School girls’ track and field team won last Wednesday’s Essex High School meet, while the MHS boys came in fourth out of five teams competing. The MHS girls scored a combined 82 points, while the boys earned 52 points.

The Mathews girls dominated the triple jump, taking first, second and third places. Nora Suthard came in first with a jump of 35’2.5”, followed by Kate Smalls (30’5”) and Dynasty Young (27’11”).
Suthard also placed first in the long jump with a leap of 15’11”, while Adrianna Forrest came in second (15’8.5”). Forrest also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.69 seconds.
Smalls won the 800-meter run (3:11.31) and came in second in the 400-meter dash (1:11.57).
Elizabeth Moore placed first in the 1,600-meter run (6:03.29). The 4x400 meter relay team also placed first with a time of 4:59.55.
