Lady Devils improve to 4-1

The Mathews High School varsity softball team added two wins this week to improve its overall season record to 4-1. Last Wednesday, the Lady Devils traveled to Rappahannock where they scored a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Raiders.

Kelly Adams and Madison Owens shared time in the circle with Adams pitching the first three innings and Owens pitching the final four. Adams struck out one, allowing two walks and one hit. Owens struck out five, walking three and giving up three hits.

After five complete innings, Mathews trailed, 2-0. MHS rallied in the top of the sixth for three runs, with Taylor South getting the big hit, a line-drive double to score two.

Hunter Thomas led the Devils at the plate going 2-for-4 with a single, double and a run scored. Casey Dalton was 1-for-2 with a single and run scored. Madison South added a double.
