Lady Devils beat K&Q, fall to Poquoson

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team dominated the visiting King and Queen Tigers last Thursday night, winning 53-25.

Top scorers for the night were Kai McCann (11 points) and Taylor South (10 points). Savanna Wooten, Madison Owens, Harley Haydon, Hunter Thomas, Kirsten Beatley, Mariah Robinson, Maria Spadaccini and Micaela Sadler all contributed to the winning score.

The following night, the Lady Devils played away against Poquoson. Mathews fell to the Bull Islanders, 42-30. Wooten had the hot hand for Mathews, scoring 11 points. South and Spadaccini each gained six. Owens, McCann and Robinson also scored points in the losing effort. The Lady Devils were supposed to host Charles City last night; however, that game was postponed until the following day. Mathews will travel to West Point tonight.
