Kraken 12U, 11U teams split doubleheaders

The Baystars Kraken 12U baseball team opened its season on Saturday at Ark Park, hosting the Virginia Blacksox of Virginia Beach, with the two teams splitting a doubleheader.

In the first game, the Kraken fell behind early and had the game get away from them, losing 18-3. The story was different in game two as they ended the game with a walk-off single from Brandon Hubbard for a 10-9 victory.
Notable players on the day were Joey Chwalik who had four hits and four runs scored, Jackson Koch who record a hit and four walks, Logan Mulrine with two hits and three stolen bases and Hubbard who had four hits and two doubles. Defensively Bradley Price was an anchor for the infield at second base.

The Kraken 12U team will travel to Virginia Beach on Sunday to face the Lynnhaven Wahoos.

11U

The Kraken 11U team held its first home games of the season in a doubleheader against the Western Branch Bruins. The Kraken split the games with the visitors losing game one, 5-3, and winning game two, 2-1.

In the first game, William Rousseau started the game on the mound, striking out four in three innings. Duke Hamm pitched in relief. Gage Mulcahy, Dominik Sales and Rousseau were the three runs scored in the loss.

The Kraken took the win in the second game before it was abruptly ended due to rain delays. Wesley Falkenberg was the starting pitcher who allowed one run and struck out four. Falkenberg along with Rousseau were the two scoring runs.

The Kraken will host Rocket Sports and the Mid Atlantic Gators at Ark Park on Sunday in a three-way series.
