Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will present a free organ concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, with a theme of British organ and vocal music at Kingston Chapel, 370 Main Street.
“A Celebration of British Music” will include several famous anthems and hymns. Local singers who are willing to augment the Kingston Choir for the occasion are being sought. A practice for all volunteers will be held at 2:30 p.m. before the concert.
Three local organists will be performing: Daniel Corneliussen, the church’s music director, will be joined by Libby Boyer, the choir director of Christ Church, Saluda; and the Rev. J. Coleman Tyler, retired associate rector and principal organist at Truro Anglican Church in Fairfax.
Donations will be accepted for Meals on Wheels and the Kingston Parish Music Program. A reception sponsored by Meals on Wheels will follow the concert.
The choir will sing “Jerusalem” by Sir Hubert H. Parry and “The Old Hundredth Psalm Tune” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and the organists will play works from across the centuries by Karl Jenkins, Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, and many more.
Anyone wishing to sing in the concert should contact Ray Stubblebine at ray@raystubblebine.com and full details and music will be provided.
