King’s legacy remembered in local programs

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was celebrated in story, song and prayer at community gatherings in Gloucester and Mathews over the weekend. On Sunday, the Mathews NAACP held the program “Reclaiming the Dream” at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church in Cobbs Creek, and on Monday afternoon, the Gloucester Union Relief Association held “A Day of Celebration: Celebrating God, Dr. King and the Struggle” at The First United Baptist Church, Gloucester. Reclaiming the Dream Bryant Hudgins, administrator of Walter Reed Post Acute in Gloucester, delivered Sunday’s keynote address, “Reclaiming the Dream,” during the NAACP program. He began with brief off-the-cuff remarks that touched on current events around the globe, from the deployment of federal agents at protests in Minnesota to the crackdown on dissent in Iran, saying, “When Dr. King gave his speech about his dream, little did he envision what the world would look like today.” He spoke of reclaiming the dream by making a small change each day...
